Why would you want to scan AOL range(s) in the first place?
hi,
the chances are that they are illegal. See the AOL terms and conditions before you trying anything.

Of course, scanning is illegal, unless you scan your own network ("your own" means "YOUR OWN", not isp owned or something). But there is almost no chance that there will be any problems if you do, even if you don't just portscan, but do much nustier things.

I mean that if you are the owner/administrator of some subnet (range of ip addresses) you may do whatever you think you should with your part of the network.

It is not illegal to scan somebody !:)
I mean, come on !
Now, almost every user has his own scanner, firewall, etc.
Why do u think scannig would be illegal ?
If just scaning - that's fine ...
If u breaking inside ... they will get ur ass !:)

What can scanning be used for if it's not for hacking?
"Hey, i am just scanning, nothing else! I just like portscanning, that's very exciting!"
That's like checking what's inside someone's pocket. Is it illegal? I don't think so. But why will you look into someone's pocket? Of course, only if you want to steal something!

Scanning is very legal. Show me the law that says otherwise

With all the recent cyber attacks, many admins are operating in paranoid mode and the laws can always be twisted just to hazzle the perpetrator wether it's illegal or not. any ISP company can file a complaint againts you or take you to the court. Would you like to take that chance? attorney fee's are not that cheap. so my advice is becareful and always think safety first.
