I got hit a year ago. Some fool took over my computer but he did it at night and I only found out when I got a bill for *50 hours in one month on a dial-up. I actually only used it myself for about a half hour a day. You need to start *****, back-up to an external HD, then remove your internal hard-drive, take it to the nearest body of water then throw it far out into the deep. Buy a new HD and install it. Purchase a CD of the newest Virus protection with firewall and spyware protection. Load an OS like WinXP Pro. Go online when you are protected and update it and your virus scanner. Go to StillListener's Corner and find a port checker and a software program that will close all your unused ports. Get a free spyware-killer. Get a proprietary disc cleaner fromm Alladin and use it often. Kill all cookies. Kill all history. Clean out the registry. Back up any important data and files on the external hardrive and disconnect it when done. Go to Symantec.com and run their free protection testing software program. Disable all file-sharing, read the help files to learn how. Make sure you can turn off your modem when you are finished with a session. Never leave it on all the time. Practice good internet and email surfing and downloading rules. If you buy anything on the net use a ****** card with protection, read the fine print. You pick up these guys by going to places where you should not be. Stay away from porn, gambling, hacker, warez, and "free" anything sites. If you chat, you are vulnerable. Finally, I found that my kids were not savvy to this problem. Don't share the computer with anyone else or get your own and let the kids have the other one. Good luck. A friend
