i dont want to sound silly here... but im trying to find a SMTP source that has an open port 25 so i can spoof an email. what should be a relatively easy process is actually proving quite difficult, because i cant find any open port 25s! does anyone know a server i can telnet into that will allow me to spoof an email? or is my information just severely out of date? thanks! :)

Lots of SMTP servers that you can telnet through port 25 and manually send email... just to list a few i use - Hotmail, Cingular (they have banned my ip  ), sprint, yahoo (BUT THEY USE POP* AUTHENTICATION), etc...

ic, thanks for the help. but, i tried each of those servers, and none of them worked for me. i keep getting...
connecting to whatever.com...could not open application to the host, on port 25: connection failed.
if the port is actually open like you say, is the problem on my end? thanks again.

Name the servers you are trying to connect to on the domains... I hope you are not trying to connect to SPRINT.COM or HOTMAIL.COM through port 25 ~
Use this webpage: http://www.web******-toolkit.com/mx-record-lookup.shtml
Find the name of the SMTP server for the domain and connect through it on port 25
Here is a list of common mail servers: http://www.realifewebdesigns.com/web-resources/pop*-smtp.html
