Is It Possible To Get Someone's Ip Address Through Aim Or An Email Address???????

hi..i was wondering...is it possible to get someone's ip address who is using AIM or who has an email address??

ok..this is my situation..i decided to buy some stuff online...(not ebay)...and i sent this person some *****...however..he decided to SCAM me and not send anything...of course there are more details to this situation...but that's basically the main gist...

so...i wanted to call the cops and stuff..but the only thing i know about this person is his AIM SCREEN NAME and his EMAIL ADDRESS!!!

is it possible for me to get his IP address and locate this person?? and by locate i mean...find his home address..

I NEED HELP PLEASE!!!

view full headers, and compare them to any other mails youve received from them. Also check to see if they hold an AOL account, or are just using AIM.

Also check with the service you bought the products from, and the source with which the payment was sent.

You or the authorities should be able to use at least one of the above mentioned techniques to establish a trail.

I think the best thing to do would be to call the cops or contact his email provider because even if you get the ip, it will only show you the location of his isp, you said it was aol, so it will just say the ip is registered to aol, and give you the address of aol. Ip numbers usually cannot trace to exact location, only isp location unless they have bought an ip range. But you can most of the time get the country. In hotmail, some emails do not include the original ip, but set the show email headers setting to "advanced"

and also, my friend has called the cops, however they said it's gonna be impossible for them to find the person's house with just their email address and aim..i guess they're not responsible for using ip address and figuring out their address...

so i just wanted to expedite the process and find the address myself...

well from that info their ISP seems to be COX Communications. you can get info on contacting their ISP from here:

I can tell you right off the bat the ISP wont give you information on their ********s without proper police procedure. What that procedure may be is up to the ISP, police and situation.

If you dont feel on relying on the police (lets face it, *0% of the time they are clueless in this area) then let me/us know HOW you sent the $ to the person, and we should be able to take it a step further.

since you paid with paypal, they (and you) have a receipt of the ***********. Paypal can be asked to provide the users information by the police dept. You can also contact paypal about the fraud as well...

he got that info using http://www.ip2location.com/ or a similar service.

All it does is give a general location, based on the ISP the IP is assigned to and isnt *00% accurate but is close.

You want info on the person... you have everything you can get without taking my previous advice. You have their ISP. You have their IP. You have their paypal *********** *****ing information. You have their general geographical location.

You want a name? You're gonna have to contact either paypal or the ISP. Thats what it comes down to.

Other than that I guess you could put up flyers in Pflugerville Texas and the surrounding areas asking if anyone knows the person whos email is coinfactory*2*@yahoo and to contact you. lol

You got all the info you need. Now call the cops and go get your ***** back.

No, you could get his ip AND isp with just his email address. Just turn on full/advanced email headers, get him to email you somehow, then use ip2location or http://www.ripe.net/ (ripe will give you more information), then it will give you the location (of the isp probably) and will give you his isp, like we said before. Then contact the police, like we said before, and if he stole your *****, then the isp will be required to give his full name and location. If viewing headers is not working, then you could get his ip from various other ways, like sending a file on an IM program and using netstat -n to view active connections, or you could get him to visit a php page that will log ip numbers.

I try to stay away from the ad filled IM programs like msn, AIM etc, but I think it's the same system of direct connect for all of them. The only IM program that I have, which you probably have as well is msn, so I will give you instructions for that. What you have to do is get ready by opening a IM conversation window with him/her, then open a command prompt (start - run - cmd) and type "netstat -n" without the quotes. Then it should bring up a list of local and remote ip numbers, now, leave that cmd window up. Now, send him a file, preferably quite big to give you enough time. While it's sending, type netstat -n again and hit enter and then it will give you another list of ip numbers. When sending files, you use a direct connection to their ip, that's why this only works while sending a file. Now, look at the two netstat -n lists. At the bottom of the second list, there should be one more number than the first list. If there is more than *, close all other applications using the internet, you need to be able to compare them without any other interruptions. As I was saying, you have one new number at the bottom. Look on the foriegn address column, and find the ip - this is their ip number. Then you can do what you want with the ip.

Like I said I have never used aim and I never will, but as long as you are in a direct connection, then you can use the method I described to get the ip. I don't know what systems of connections aim uses, but doing a direct file transfer or something should get you the connection.

It really looks like this person is more than a un-happy buyer. If you paid with paypal like you said then all you have to do is go into your paypal account and get his name. Come on most of the people on here have used paypal and when you send a person ***** it goes into a **** account with the persons name on it. After the purchase you get a receipt and its always in your paypal account. I am sorry but this sounds more like a chat room stalker than a unhappy buyer. Plus if you paid with paypal just contact them to get your ***** back. At the very least they will tell you this information you are looking for. Like I said I could be wrong but when you are posting all this and you say you dont even know the persons name I have a real hard time thinking you paid with paypal. It sounds like you want one of the members on here to give you somebodies name address and phone number of a person you have no idea who they are.

Well, you can't really get much information by just having someones IP adress. I'm not sure how you got his IP anyway since it sounds like he scammed you & left, but you can at least report him to his ISP. Unless he runs some sort of business I don't see a way you can get police involved.

Look at the email headers, it should say the IP under X-Originating. That's not the static IP, but oh well.

It's worth noting that the X-Originating-IP shouldn't really be trusted. It is added manually by the email client, and can be spoofed easily. Whenever I spoof emails, I usually add a fake IP address to confuse the receiver.

The IP address at the start of the SMTP mail server headers at the top, however, is genuine.

I'm guessing the seller's IP is 64.*2.**7.2. However, when I toss that into that IP address locator giver earlier in this thread, it returns NY city. I thought I was dealing with someone in MN, so is there a chance NY city is where AOL is, not where the seller is?

I tried getting an IP through email. It really depends on their email server, I know you can't IP's from guys with gmail accounts but if they have their own website domain like john@johnscomputers.com you can probably view their IP in the headers somewhere if you click view original (in gmail).

I used this script www.whatstheirip.com to get my competitors IP address's and I blocked them from viewing my website, worked like a charm :)

I just got scammed and i have their email and phone number. They used a phony paypal email and made me send an ipod and they are trying to get me to send $**0 because of an error. I am currently texting them pretending to be sending the *****. I contacted the police but i don't think they can do much. I there any way i can get their ip to be able to give it to the police? their number is *40*28745*2 they havent deleted it because they must be waiting for me to get fully scammed. Their email is payment********verifiedlink@rocketmail.com. Please help.

Hi you cannot get the personal information of a person using his/her IP address. But you can get the basic information like Country,state,IP Location,Latitude, Longitude,etc,. From any IP look up site. For e.g visit this site IP-Details.com this would be useful for you...

Well my friend my advice is that you should not buy anything from internet that is suspicius in first hand to you.
if you payed via Paypal you can try to call them and tell that person that you send ***** is scamer and maybe they will give ***** back to you .
