LOL, opening a file with the extension .reg writes all the registry keys inside it into YOUR registry, so your registry now is the same as the computer you got it from, this will definitely cause problems in the future for you, some programs store their settings in the registry. You need to find a way to get your registry back to how it was before, either through a backup you made earlier of your registry or from system restore or something. When you want to view what's inside that .reg file, right click it and select "open with", then select notepad. Double clicking a .reg file will write all it's keys into your registry.

You completely misunderstood me. Let me clarify how things work.

You boot your computer on the network from your hard drive with windows OS. Windows says "Let me see if this user is a member of this network". Your username is compared on a Main server at the school that has Active Directory installed. From there policies are applied that pertain to your username or user group. Restrictions are set.

This is why you boot from a disk (Floppy or CD) with a separate operating system. Now you can access the hard drive with no restrictions. You can open the registry with notepad and make manual changes. The registry is a giant text file.

If you installed an ENTIRE registry I really don’t know what to tell you except find another computer (if this is the schools puter). Tell your teacher you accidentally clicked on your registry backup instead of the file you were trying to open. I'm sure they keep backups, or at least a smart admin does.

Good luck!
