i've just been to the shields up (http://www.grc.com/su-firewalls.htm) site test my security and it failed the stealth test, *** was open but ive stealthed that one but it says it can still ping me..

i checked the ICMP settin on outpost free and it was set to block ICMP requests so now i have moved to ZA free and its still the same, i cant find no ICMP settings in ZA though.. :(

so this is what it said:

GRC Port Authority Report created on UTC: 2006-07-*5 at *8:22:45

Results from scan of ports: 0-*055

0 Ports Open
0 Ports Closed
*056 Ports Stealth
---------------------
*056 Ports Tested

ALL PORTS tested were found to be: STEALTH.

TruStealth: FAILED - ALL tested ports were STEALTH,
- NO unsolicited packets were received,
- A PING REPLY (ICMP Echo) WAS RECEIVED.

i have also done a netstat command to see if i could see anything dodgy going on, there was a couple of connections established and listening but i wasnt sure what they all were..so here is a netstat (i've removed personal info and put *** in)

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.*.2600]
(C) Copyright **85-200* Microsoft Corp.

C:\Documents and Settings\*******>netstat -a

so, can anyone tell me how come i can be pinged or how i can stop it..

thx.

Don't you use a router? A router would block all incoming connections, unless you implicitly told it to forward the ports.

And just because it can ping you doesn't mean anything. Ping requests are not dangerous, and it is probably your router that is replying to them.

I think the problem is that gamerdude77 did not finish his question. He asked if his PC was secure. Secure from what?

Windows Venerablility? Rootkit? Virus? Spyware? Trojan?

And of corse the answer depends on the software you are using on your computer. Do you keep windows updated? Do you have virus protection? Do you have a router? Spyware Scanners?
