what is the risk of enabling port forwarding on the broadband router?

if your router has a nat firewall, normally, you won't be able to use special applications like Netmeeting, Web Servers, FTP Servers etc. and the only way to resolve this is to open the ports that these apps are using. Don't worry because the opening of the ports is similar to a ONE-WAY mirror--the ports are opened up so the flow goes from the internal network to the outside and not external forces to your internal network.so no danger at all. and one more thing, your nat firewall router translates your private ip add to a public one so whenever you access the internet, the chance of getting through your internal network is so slim--it doesn't even stand a chance at all coz the nat firewall does its job.
