Cain and Abel

Hi all

I have downloaded Cain and Abel, which can scan for nearby wireless networks and pick them up, but I can’t figure out how to get it to find out the passwords for those networks. Can anyone explain how - or is Cain and Abel the wrong program for this?

C&A won't magically find passwords. Check into arp poisoning. http://www.irongeek.com/i.php?page=videos/cain*

Hi - thanks for this. Getting warmer. But am still not sure how to get it to sniff passwords on OTHER wireless networks in the vicinity, rather than those on this computer's own network.

You will need to join the network and arp poison to get the passwords.

Hmm. You can doubtless tell I am a complete amateur at this. Any good tutorials you can recommend?

To access other networks that are encrypted with wep look for a program named back*****. http://www.remote-exploit.org/back*****_download.html Then google for tutorials, there are lots of them.
