you can obtian his IP address, through using the netstat command in ms-dos prompt, since Yahoo Messanger has such poor security. The other stuff someone else might be able to help you with.

If yahoo is like other proxy based messengers (MSN, ***) then it is possible to not reveal your IP address while simply chatting, as all data will be sent through the central server at MSN or whereever. When you do something that requires a direct connection, such as a file transfer, then your computer must have a valid IP address to send it to.
If you have an IP address, then there are some limited ways of finding the location from that.
Hiding or disclosing IP addresses is not a security measure in itself.
For example, I challenge you to reveal any unreleased information from 2*6.2**.**.**.

in your dos prompt type netstat -a and you will see whose connected to you. if your connected to someone in YM then you will be able to see his/her IP
