The netstat -a is outdated with many chat programs but not P2P software. I Believe AIM and Yahoo now use their own servers as the middle man when direcly connecting two users so no more cracking your friends computer... darn

Alternative of how to get an IP

I have written a fun little windows batch script... All you have to know is the ISP of your friend, the State they live in, and either one shared folder on their computer, their computers name, or their printers name.

Not only can you find their computer but you can also drop them a little note on their desktop and freak them out~

I doubt that - the bandwidth required for the instant messaging servers to handle all client to client transfers would be enormous, not to mention unnecessary.

I am in a MiRC chat and its not my own.
I use /whois and it gives me the address but its not an IP. How can i use this address to get their IP?

If you are getting only host just use the toolbox to match an ip to it

the info u gave was very sound i tried n i got wt u said ....plz help me i m facing prob that someone hack my msn and yahoo id password and i get to know only wn sometimes i try to online on msn ....after trying so many times wn i login the popin window appears and displays ur r login to other location n here u sign off......i m much worry abt this ...... so many times i,ve changed my password....bt in vain....whoever is doing this just steel my contact details and nothing ..... tell me how can i see that someone is hacking me wn i oline....and also how can i get into others pc or hack other info after establishing the connection....

I know this is a very silly question, but what can you do if you have somones IP address? Whats it worth? Because I know such a simply basic way to get ppl's IP address. I see tons of them everyday.

ok.. if you whois somebody on irc . . like exec a command /whios .it will return

- whois for nick
- someinfo..~@20*.268.2**.*44 . . irc sux go watch tv instead . .
- Nick is currently online #usa @#hisAssBitch +#imtooNoOb
- End of Whois
