How to increase the internet speed

I am using broad band service & I chk my internet speed from http://www.ip-details.com/internet-speed-test/ by the time my download speed:1565 upload speed: 273 Is this speed is a normal one or i have to increase the speed. If so increase means how can i increase the speed.

As far as I know (and I don't know that much about it), you can't really increase your internet speed. I remember years and years ago there were supposed tools that would "uncap" your connection so that you could have the speeds you're "supposed" to have (dl/upload faster). But I think the only true way of doing this is at the head of the server, your isp. They cap your connection speeds. Though there are tools that will help your computer/connection run more smoothly and more efficient (however you won't see HUGE gains)? Also, make sure no one is leeching off your connection, that it is secure, and that you are getting what your isp is saying - if you're not getting the speed you pay for then it's a gip! lol ><

Is that what you mean? You may have to upgrade your net package if you want faster speeds.

note: dsl speeds will rely more on how close, or far..that you are from the terminal; close would be fast vs further being slower

Edit: There are little things you can do that will not necessarily make your connection faster, but run more quickly and smoothly, namely your net surfing. 1) configure your browser so it won't display sounds, pictures or video on webpages or unneeded functions. 2) your cache where the recently viewed sites are saved. You may need to resize how much it caches, or you may need to purge it peroidically. delete your temp. internet files? 3) make sure your modem is up to date? (lol) though it probably is if you are using broadband. 4) remove unneeded things or programs from your computer. also, bandwidth hogging things can slow your speeds down. 5) possibly try downloading a trusted net accelerator tool. (also, DON'T download any bogus software that makes claims to boost your speed with unreal claims.. they will make your computer vulnerable to attacks. I can't atm, but I'm sure someone here can suggest a safe accelerator program or where to dl one.)

If you use Windows XP Professional then it is possible to squeeze an extra 20% out of your internet connection. By default Windows XP Pro holds back 20% of your Internet speed for various services like windows update and spyware checks.

If you want to tap into this locked speed then make the following changes:

1. Go to Start-> Run-> and type gpedit.msc
2. Expand the Administrative Templates branch
3. Expand the Network tab
4. Highlight QoS Packet Scheduler
5. Click on Limit Reservable Bandwidth and check the enabled box
6. Then Change the Bandwidth limit % to 0 %

Once you have done this click apply and restart your PC. After rebooting you should see a noticeable improvement in your net speed.

Since the first time I've used Ubuntu, I've noticed that whenever I browse a web page there always seems to be tiny delay before the page is loaded — even if the page is on cache. Unlike Ubuntu, this never seemed to be the case on Windows, which loads the page instantaneously.

After a bit of searching, I found out how to remove the delay, and how to even further boost my Internet speed.
1. Disable IPv6

IPv6 is an Internet protocol which is the successor to IPv4. The problem with IPv6 is that IPv4 is still the dominating protocol, so IPv6 is very rare, but it is still enabled by default on Ubuntu.

Every time an application uses the Internet, it first tries to connect using IPv6. Once it doesn't find IPv6, it falls back to IPv4. This process creates a delay before the web page loads.

To remove this delay we will have to disable IPv6.
